A low cost and easy re-configurable instrument for power quality survey

In this document the development of a low cost and user friendly PC-based instrument for power quality measurement is proposed, according to IEC 61000-4-7 and standard IEC 61000-4-30. It is an easily re-configurable instrument able to measure harmonics, interharmonics and amplitude disturbances and supply unbalance. In order to verify its accuracy, the instrument has been tested according standard test procedures, by means of a built-up calibration test bench.

In wind electrical energy generating systems, due to fast voltage and current fluctuations, the power converter represents a source of electromagnetic disturbances. EMI problems of stand alone wind generators are here analysed in order to take into account many different power quality problems which result in voltage fluctuations and harmonics in the net. Numerical simulation of radiated EMI in 42V electrical automotive architectures

The work is focused on the evaluation of radiated electromagnetic interference generated by dc/dc converters in 42 V systems automotive environment. The results obtained by using the method of moments and the finite difference time domain method, separately, are presented and validated in comparison with those measured in a semi-anechoic electromagnetic chamber. A measurement system set up by the authors is employed. Both the used numerical approaches are proved to be an useful tool for radiated disturbance prediction, and also for electromagnetic compatibility oriented design of the vehicle electrical architecture.

FDTD simulation for electromagnetic radiated emissions in 42 V vehicle electrical systems

In this paper a full 3D approach, based on finite difference time domain method, is used to predict the electromagnetic radiated emissions from 42 V vehicle electrical loads. An experimental set-up has been arranged on purpose. A comparative analysis among measured and computed results is performed. The good agreement obtained among simulated and measured data enables to validate the numerical scheme. The proposed methodology contributes to predict electromagnetic emissions in the automotive environment since the design stage. Design of EMI Filters Using Multi-Objective Optimization

A multi-objective design procedure for EMI filters in power converters is proposed. In a first step, the results obtained by an automatic design of EMI filters for power electronic converters oriented to satisfy the electromagnetic compatibility standards and the power density constraint which impose the minimization of the filter volume and/or weight, are evaluated. Experimental EMF characterization of a secondary substation

This paper presents the results of the experimental EMC characterization of a new medium/low voltage (MV/LV) secondary substation, which was developed in the framework of the research project "NEW CAB ELARC". It has two MV/LV transformers, with total rated power of 1000 kVA. To perform the experimental characterization, firstly an analysis was performed of the Italian and European standards recommendations. Full Wave Solution for Intel CPU With a Heat Sink for EMC Investigations

A CPU with a heat sink (e.g. Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Pentium dual core) is a challenging problem for EMC analysis. A Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) device was modelled using the Finite Element Method (FEM) frequency domain solver to obtain a 3D full wave solution. The electromagnetic (EM) radiation emitted from these high power microelectronic circuits connected to a heat sink was found to have resonant frequencies around 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz with reflection coefficients less than -19 dB and -8 dB respectively. High-Frequency Experimental Characterization and Modeling of Six Pack IGBTs Power Modules

In this paper, a method to characterize the high-frequency (HF) behavior of six pack insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) power module (PM) is presented. The method is based on experimental measurements at the external pins of the device and it allows one to extract internal inductive and capacitive parasitic coupling without the knowledge of structural and physical parameters of the PM.
